A new newspaper has been launched by Marketing Derby to promote activities taking place at Derby City Lab.

Called ‘Engage’, the publication explains what the venue, in St James Street, is all about, the exhibitions that have taken place so far and future events.

It also promotes Marketing Derby’s popular Insider Tours, free to Bondholders, which start and finish at Derby City Lab.

Launched in June last year, the City Lab has been created to engage, inform and inspire people about plans to shape the city going forward.

It is housed in a unit provided courtesy of Clowes Developments – and backed by Marketing Derby, the University of Derby, Derby City Council and Lathams.

It is an initiative based on the concept of ‘urban rooms’, which have appeared in various cities around the world, including London, Amsterdam and Shanghai, to help local communities better understand the evolution of their place and engage them in shaping its future.

As well as being the home of Marketing Derby’s Investor Showcase, the venue hosts a rolling programme of exhibitions focused on future pipeline projects and ideas.

As detailed in the Engage newspaper, the lab has already hosted pop-up exhibitions by a range of organisations, including Down to Earth Derby, Derby City Council, Royal Crown Derby and the University of Derby.

Adam Rodgers, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Derby City Lab lead, said: “The newspaper showcases the exhibitors and events which have taken place in the lab in the first year – and I’m excited to be planning the next programme of events and collaborations, which will stimulate conversations on the future of Derby.

“Derby City Lab is a fantastic, dynamic space and it’s great to see how many activities have taken place in the first year.

“I’m really thankful for all of the efforts and lengths people have gone to to make this such a success.”
