YMCA Derbyshire has made a final call to Marketing Derby Bondholders to take part in its annual Sleep Easy challenge – and raise funds for people at risk of homelessness or experiencing poverty.

This year’s event is due to take place on Friday 13 March 2025 at 7pm at Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s Central Co-op County Ground.

Everyone taking part will be braving the elements for one night to provide people in need with the foundations to rebuild their lives — including access to mental health support, wellbeing-boosting activities, training and employment opportunities, and essential items such as food, toiletries, and clothing.

In 2025 YMCA Derbyshire provided 315 people with a safe place to live and the chance for a fresh start through our supported pathways.

The Padley Community Hub has distributed 1,275 food parcels and supported individuals and families living in poverty to develop skills via educational sessions.

The hub offers a community kitchen, a café, a pantry and launderette, along with activity and learning spaces, with activities to boost their physical and mental wellbeing, build resilience and develop essential skills for life.

Among the Bondholders who have already signed up to this year’s Sleep Easy challenge is Vaillant Group, Cosy Direct, Handelsbanken and Repton School.

There is still an opportunity for people to sign up.

Those who cannot make it to the cricket club are being encouraged to sleep out in a garden, on an office floor or any unconventional space.

The goal is to provide a small glimpse into the challenges people face when they find themselves without a safe place to call home.

In Derby and Derbyshire, YMCA Derbyshire said it was seeing increasing numbers of individuals and young people facing housing insecurity, financial hardship, and the risk of homelessness.

Grace Harrison, director of development at YMCA Derbyshire, said: “Sleep Easy is more than just a fundraising initiative, it’s a powerful statement of unity and compassion.

“This year marks my 13th Sleep Easy, and each time I take part I’m reminded why it matters so much.

“By stepping outside my comfort zone for just one night, we help shine a light on the realities faced by those at risk of homelessness.

“I’m privileged to see first-hand the transformative impact this event has, changing the lives of young people and individuals who need support the most.

“Together, we can raise vital funds, build greater understanding, and work towards a future where everyone has a safe place to sleep and a secure foundation from which to rebuild their lives.”
