Almost 30,000 people have flocked through the doors of Derby City Council’s new £42 million Moorways Sports Village during its opening fortnight.

The state-of-the-art facility, run by Everyone Active on behalf of the city council, opened on Saturday 21st May.

Since then, the water park has been used 7,247 times, while the swimming pools hosted 3,354 casual swims, with more than 1,600 users now signed up for swimming lessons at the site.

The centre includes a 50-metre main pool and learner pool, a state-of-the-art water park, a large fitness suite and three exercise studios.

There is also a café, two soft plays and a spa, while outside there is Moorways Stadium, with its track and field facilities, and football pitches.

Councillor Jerry Pearce, the city council’s cabinet member for Streetpride, leisure and public spaces, said: “Moorways Sports Village has been quick off the starting blocks and I’m sure once more people have visited and seen what it has to offer, its success will run and run.

“It was designed to offer something for everyone, making it an excellent addition to the council’s leisure offer at Derby Arena and Springwood Leisure Centre.”

Simon Morgan, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We are delighted to see so many people already enjoying Moorways Sports Village and experiencing the wide range of activities on offer.

“We have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback we have received from customers, and it’s been a great start to life for the centre.

“We are really positive that we can grow our membership numbers over the coming months and that people from across the community will use this fantastic facility.”
