A former professional footballer has been appointed as the technical director of football at Repton School.

Luke Webb, who played professionally for Coventry City and Hereford United before embarking on a career in coaching, will take up the role in September.

He joins Repton from Bradfield College where he spent 14 years creating and developing a nationally acclaimed elite football programme.

Luke, who is a former Arsenal apprentice, said: “A particular balance is required when considering the sport of football within the education sphere.

“For me, they are one and the same, but it takes a vast array of knowledge and experience to see the complementary nature between them and even more skill to facilitate elite development through their interaction, while being empathetic to the values of an institution.”

Repton’s headmaster Mark Semmence said: “Luke is an inspirational leader with ambitious plans to push Repton’s football provision and pupil support across all participation levels.

“He has clearly demonstrated longevity of excellence in football coaching and people development, and we are thrilled to have him join the Repton family next academic year.”
