A night of classical music performed by Sinfonia Viva is set to round off the Darley Park Weekender music event, which is due to take place later this month.

Organised by Derby LIVE, the event will take place over the August bank holiday weekend, beginning with an Ultimate 90s event on Friday 25 August, which includes a line-up featuring Peter Andre, East 17, Liberty X and Five.

This will be followed on Saturday 26 August with the 80s Mix Tape, which will feature famous names such as Martin Kemp, Hue and Cry and ABC.

The weekend, which is being backed by sponsors including HUUB and Circulayo, will then be rounded off in style with the Darley Park Concert on Sunday 27 August, where families can enjoy classical music and fireworks.

Sinfonia Viva, who are appearing at the concert thanks to support from Rolls-Royce, will be playing a variety of music, ranging from classics composed by Edward Elgar and Percy Grainger to themes from movies including Indiana Jones, Thunderball and Frozen.

The orchestra will also bring their unique interpretations of chart toppers by Queen, Gloria Gaynor and Dolly Parton and musical theatre favourites from Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar.

The concert will then close with the traditional fireworks finale and a rendition of Land of Hope and Glory, which has proven to be a highlight for audiences over the years.

Derby LIVE is the tourism and events arm of Derby City Council.

Councillor Nadine Peatfield, the city council’s cabinet member for city centre, regeneration, culture and tourism, said: “This event keeps getting bigger and better every year and it’s wonderful to see people come together to enjoy music in the beautiful setting of Darley Park.

“The Darley Park Concert is the perfect way to round off what promises to be a fantastic weekend from start to finish. It’s a great opportunity to see an award-winning orchestra perform for such a brilliant ticket price.”
