Major retailer announces relocation to Derbion shopping centre
Primark has confirmed it will be relocating to a newly curated store at the Derbion shopping centre.
In 2027, the brand will leave its current location in Cornmarket for a space inside the retail and leisure destination.
Located on Level 1, the new Primark will have its own dedicated entrance directly from Albion Street, creating a direct link to the store and centre for shoppers.
This is part of Derbion’s ongoing development work in Albion Walk, designed to prepare the space for the arrival of Primark and enhance the overall shopping experience for visitors.
Primark will remain open for trading as usual until its new space at Derbion is ready to open.
Beth McDonald, managing director at Derbion, said: “Welcoming Primark to Derbion is a major and exciting milestone. Primark has been part of Derby’s history for over 50 years, and we’re thrilled to be part of the next chapter in the brand’s continued story in the city.
“We can’t wait for their opening, which we’re confident will attract shoppers from across the region to experience everything Derbion has to offer.”

Primark, which specialises in clothing and accessories, as well as home and beauty, has been in the city for over 50 years after opening its first-ever UK store in Derby back in 1974.
Since then, it has remained a popular destination for shoppers across the East Midlands and beyond and now operates 198 stores up and down UK high streets.
To make way for the new Primark store, Derbion said it has carefully worked with existing retailers near and around Albion Walk to relocate many of them within the centre.
Brands such as Superdrug, H. Samuel, The Perfume Shop and Iceland have recently moved to new spaces in Derbion.
Beth added: “This highly anticipated announcement marks another key development in the ongoing evolution of Derbion, reinforcing our commitment to creating a vibrant and dynamic retail and leisure destination for visitors.”

Philippa Nibbs, director of sales for the south and east region at Primark UK, said: “We’re very proud of our long-standing presence in Derby, with over 50 years of bringing local shoppers our great value fashion, beauty and homeware, creating jobs for local people and supporting the wider community.
“Our move to Derbion in 2027 will mark an exciting new chapter in our journey and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for our new store.
“In the meantime, we are open as usual on Cornmarket and look forward to sharing more updates with our customers and colleagues in the coming months.”
