Major rail festival shortlisted for top award
A sell-out festival hosted by Alstom, which celebrated 200 years of the modern railway, has been shortlisted for a top tourism award.
The Greatest Gathering, which saw more than 40,000 people from all over the globe descend on the train-maker’s Litchurch Lane Works in Derby over three days in August, was the largest rail festival of its kind in the world.

Now, it has been shortlisted in the Peak District, Derbyshire & Derby Tourism Awards in the Festival or Event of the Year category.
The winner is decided by a public vote. Also shortlisted is ‘Celebrating Jane Austen’, a festival which took place at the Devonshire Group’s Chatsworth House in June.
Public voting is now open until the end of the day on Sunday 30 November.
The three top scoring festivals or events will be invited to attend the awards dinner in March where they will discover whether they have won gold, silver or bronze.
