Young people urged to share views on Derby MADE plans
The developers behind plans to regenerate Derby’s Market Place are calling on young people to share their views on what they want to see included.
Earlier this year, plans to regenerate the area – including the former Assembly Rooms site – were lodged with Derby City Council.
The proposals were brought forward by VINCI UK Developments and ION Developments, who have since both been formally appointed as the city council’s development partners on the project.
Developed over the past few years, in consultation with residents, local organisations and key stakeholders, the masterplan includes a business plan for the site, which includes Derby MADE – a multi-use building on the site of the former Assembly Rooms.
However, the developers are keen to hear from young people about what they want from the scheme.

At present, it is planned to be a flexible community, commercial, leisure and cultural building, which could include:
*A public space for meeting studying or working with its own coffee shop, bar and café.
*A small music venue – a capacity of up to 400 people for a music event.
*Cultural / exhibition space – it will have a flexible double height space that can be used for spoken word, gallery display, art exhibitions, film, events, product launches, small conferences and exhibitions.
*Dedicated co-working – students, businesses, and community groups to have meetings, hold events and base themselves in the city centre.
*An additional library focussed on families, children and young people.
*A rooftop bar and several food and beverage outlets.
*Three café bar restaurants on the ground floor – a mix of national names and opportunities for local businesses.
The developers are now calling for as many young people as possible to come forward and share their view on a dedicated website.
