A number of Marketing Derby Bondholders are among the finalists for awards which recognise the best dealmakers in the region.

The shortlists for the East Midlands Dealmakers Awards 2023 have now been published by event organiser Midlands Business Insider.

And several companies will be flying the flag for the Bondholder community at the awards ceremony, which is due to take place in Birmingham on Thursday 14 September.

Freeths has been shortlisted for Corporate Law Firm of the Year, while one its directors, Mo Abbas, is nominated for Emerging Dealmaker of the Year and corporate partner Lee Clifford is up for Corporate Lawyer of the Year.

Mazars is a finalist in the SME Advisory Team of the Year, NatWest is up for Bank of the Year and LDC is nominated for Funder of the Year.

These firms, along with PwC, are part of teams nominated for International Deal of the Year and Midmarket Deal of the Year.

Among the finalists in SME Deal of the Year is the sale of Nowcomm to 4Net.

Another finalist in that category is the sale of SV Timber to the National Timber Group – a deal which Flint Bishop had a hand in.

Finally, David Bains, a partner at LDC, is nominated in the Dealmaker of the Year category.

Kurt Jacobs, from Midlands Business Insider, said: “This year we set the judges a particularly challenging task.

“Even after the longlists had been whittled down to the most popular nominations, put forward by the Midlands’ dealmaking community, the panel still had to decide from lists of up to 20 entrants to agree on the finalists and winners.

“However, that meant those making the final shortlists represent the very best that this region has to offer in dealmaking.”
