The University of Derby is seeking nominations for an award, which recognises someone who has undertaken an incredible civic act.

The Civic Hero Award, part of the university’s annual Civic Awards, salutes a person or group who gives back to their community in a meaningful way.

The award was first introduced in 2024 by the university’s civic team and is designed to recognise and celebrate brilliant staff and stakeholders who make a real difference.

The winner of last year’s Civic Hero Award was Debbie Kemp, operations manager at DHU Healthcare, who was recognised for her commitment to charitable causes.

The university is also looking to recognise an amazing intergenerational volunteer, through the Intergenerational Volunteer Award, which is being backed by Derby North MP Catherine Atkinson.

Nominations close on 11 June. The winners will be invited to the University of Derby Annual Civic Award Reception at Kedleston Road, on 3 July.
