Online recruitment events help people into work

More than 140 people have found jobs so far this year thanks to monthly online recruitment events held by Derby City Council.

Since launching in January, Derby Jobs Live events have featured a variety of employers from across the city, including Alstom, TrentBarton and HelloFresh.

The free events form part of a brokerage service from the council’s Economic Growth Service that helps connect employers and training providers to people looking for work opportunities and training programmes.

Derby Jobs Live gives city-based employers an opportunity to showcase their vacancies and promote the benefits of working for their organisations directly to jobseekers.

People attend online and have a chance to find out more about the employer and ask questions.

Where required, the team works alongside relevant employment and skills providers to offer training required for the roles.

Councillor Evonne Williams, the city council’s cabinet member for children, young people and skills, said: “It’s important that everyone has opportunities and support to find a good job.

“I’m pleased to see so many local people engaging with the city businesses that take part in the Derby Jobs Live events and finding work.

“There are lots of great jobs available in Derby and ensuring that vacancies are open and accessible to all is key in developing of our economy.”
