The founder of AWD Development Solutions was among a group of small business owners who were celebrated at a special event at the House of Lords.

Andrew Deighton was invited to a reception, which recognised the successes and achievements of small business owners.

It was held ahead of Small Business Saturday, which took place at the weekend.

Hosted by Small Business Saturday, in partnership with the campaign’s principal supporter American Express, the event celebrated the SmallBiz100 – 100 inspiring small businesses from all over the country that are highlighted as part of the Small Business Saturday UK campaign.

Andrew’s business was named a SmallBiz100 in 2020, but due to the pandemic a reception could not be held.

He said: “I was delighted to hear that I’d been chosen as one of the SmallBiz110 in 2020.

“It was fantastic recognition and a real morale boost that came at a difficult time.

“All my work had disappeared due to the pandemic so it was really tough.

“Unfortunately, due to lockdown, we weren’t able to attend any face-to-face celebration events last year, so it was great to have the opportunity this year instead.”

Andrew set up AWD Development Solutions seven years ago after being made redundant by Rolls-Royce following a 26-year career.

The firm helps businesses to grow through training and developing business owners, their employees and their teams.

Michelle Ovens CBE, director of Small Business Saturday UK, said: “Hosting this special event at the House of Lords for amazing businesses like AWD Development Solutions felt like the best way to say a big thank you for their incredible effort and contribution over these past tough couple of years.

“They can be really proud of everything they’ve achieved, and we hope the afternoon was a positive way to draw 2021 to a close.”
