Derbion doubles the incentive for entrepreneurs to enter competition
Derbion has doubled the incentive for entrepreneurs and small businesses to enter a competition in which they can win free retail space inside the centre.
Previously, the centre’s Hatch competition has offered six weeks of rent-free space to the winner. However, this year, it has been doubled to 12 weeks.
Returning for a seventh year, the popular initiative enables one winning business to “hatch” at Derbion creating its own retail space within the centre.
In addition, the winner also receives marketing support to help boost awareness and growth.

Following the initial application process, shortlisted businesses will be invited to bring their vision to life with an in-person pitch to a panel, who will select a winner set to open at Derbion later in the year.
The scheme has seen continued success each year since its launch in 2019, with three of the previous winners – Design 44, Spirit Crystals and 1NE. – still open at the centre to date.
The scheme has also provided a number of other local brands with the opportunity to open their first physical presence in a shopping centre.
Beth McDonald, managing director at Derbion, said: “After seven fantastic years of our Hatch initiative, we’re incredibly excited to be boosting the impact of the scheme by offering an extended period of up to 12 weeks rent-free space in-centre.
“We’re proud to have provided a supportive springboard for local brands including Design 44, Spirit Crystals and 1NE., and we look forward to hearing from small businesses seeking their first physical retail presence, so if you or someone you know is looking for an opportunity to take their brand to the next level, then this is your chance.”
To closing date for entries is Sunday 29 March.
