An annual charity bike ride in aid of Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre has raised a record total of more than £22,000.

Earlier this year, a group of hardy cyclists rode 100 miles from Derby to Skegness – the Lincolnshire seaside resort where the holiday centre is based.

The centre provides five-day breaks to children who come from homes where they may not otherwise get a holiday.

The money from this year’s ride, known as the SkegVegas 100, has now been added up – and Alan Grimadell, chair of the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, said he was delighted with the total.

He said: “It’s brilliant that this year’s SkegVegas100 has raised such a huge total for the holiday centre.

“We are entirely reliant on fundraising and this great amount will put smiles on the faces of many more children in Derbyshire who are badly in need of a holiday.”
