Video production company Goldbox Productions has signed a new partnership agreement with the University of Derby – the place where all four of its founders graduated.

Goldbox was launched by film production students Josh Spaticchia, Ben Collison, James Heaney and Odhran Taylor while they were still studying.

They went full-time when they completed their course in 2020.

Despite the challenges presented by starting operations during the pandemic, the team has established a successful business offering video content to a wide range of industries. Their clients include Bear Grylls, Dunelm and Hilton Hotels.

Business support through the university’s Innovation Hothouse and business incubation unit at Banks Mill helped them as they became established.

Now based at the Enterprise Centre, in Bridge Street, the firm has recently signed a strategic partnership agreement with the university.

Ben said: “This partnership will open up a number of brilliant opportunities for us to learn, grow and make new connections thanks to the fantastic resources and individuals at the university.

“In return, we will support a number of University of Derby students through mentorship, workshops and other exciting experiences.

“It feels great to give back and continue to develop our relationship. We cannot wait to get started on this next phase in our growth.”

Professor Alex Molasiotis, the university’s pro vice-chancellor dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Education, said: “We are delighted to be strengthening our relationship with Goldbox and to continue to be part of their journey.

“Our expert team, including researchers and marketing and communications professionals, will work with them to help them build their network, profile and brand while remaining true to their creative talent and ambition.

“I am looking forward to seeing how they grow and how their creativity and experience can help support and develop our current and future students.”

Professor Warren Manning, provost (innovation and research) at the University of Derby, said: “It is a privilege to be able to support our graduates as they grow their business and make a vital contribution to the local economy.

“Derby has a long history of innovation and we hope that the Goldbox team’s entrepreneurial spirit will inspire more graduates to follow in their footsteps.”
