The exciting investments and projects which are helping to reinvent and reinvigorate Derby city centre are the focus of Marketing Derby’s latest edition of Innovate Magazine, which is out this week.

The summer edition of the glossy publication, which provides a window into the amazing and inspiring Derby and Derbyshire business sector, pulls together the key developments that are giving the city confidence in a better future.

It looks at how investors are helping to power this new belief, through residential, commercial, educational and cultural enhancements.

Among them is Cale Street – the owner of the Derbion shopping centre – which gives an insight into its plans for further investment in the city.

It also looks at the exciting residential schemes taking place in the city centre, including Nightingale Quarter, Castleward and Becketwell.

In terms of education, Innovate examines the University of Derby’s plan for a brand new business school in the heart of the city – and looks at how the city’s strategy to attract more high-quality businesses to the heart of Derby city centre is paying off, with the arrival of companies such as IT firm Bam Boom Cloud.

A major boost to Derby’s cultural offer has been the recent opening of the £18 million Museum of Making. Innovate talks to the key players behind the museum – and how it can bring a welcome boost to tourism.

And staying on the theme of the city, this edition’s Talking Business debate brought together the younger generation to talk about what Derby needs to make it a place where people want to live, work and play.

To be a successful city, you need successful businesses – and Derby is lucky to be blessed with many.

The food and drink industry has faced many challenges due to the pandemic – but Bustler Market and Project D are two businesses in that sector who are not just surviving but thriving. Innovate profiles both firms and speaks to the people behind them about the secret of their success.

It is not just locally or nationally that Derby firms are enjoying success.

SureScreen Diagnostics and HUUB – firms with innovation at their heart – are both succeeding on a global stage.

SureScreen is exporting its Covid-19 tests to countries all over the world, while HUUB, whose apparel is used by international athletes, recently received the Queen’s Award for Innovation. Innovate talks to the people behind both companies.

When it comes to global companies, train company Alstom is a major force. In the latest edition, Innovate meets Nick Crossfield, the boss of the train-maker’s UK operation following the French firm’s takeover of the business formerly known as Bombardier.

Successful businesses are driven by inspirational people – and one of those is Claire Twells, from Smith Partnership.

Somehow, Claire, who is a lawyer, business leader, charity campaigner and mum, managed to find time in her schedule to talk to Innovate.

Finally, our managing director, John Forkin, talks about ‘assembling the pieces of the Derby jigsaw’.

Hard copies of the summer edition of Innovate are being delivered to Bondholders from this week – and will be handed out to delegates at tomorrow’s Derby Property Summit.

However, the digital version of the magazine can be accessed here.
