The Derbyshire Sporting Joint has announced it has relocated to a new base at Derbyshire County Cricket Club on a permanent basis.

The physiotherapy specialist had previously been based at David Lloyd on Pride Park.

However, when the pandemic hit in March last year and gyms were forced to close, The Sporting Joint also had to close its doors.

The cricket club stepped in and offered to accommodate The Sporting Joint in a purpose-built physiotherapy area at its Incora County Ground, which was no longer being used.

It has now been offered the opportunity to expand the space it already has, resulting in more treatment rooms and the creation of private rehabilitation space.

Commenting on the signing of a long-term lease with the cricket club, Kate Stalker, lead physio and clinic director at The Sporting Joint, said: “Having worked at the cricket club from 2004 to 2008, both in the clinic at the ground and as First XI physio, I feel like I’m getting back to my roots.

“As a passionate cricket-lover the thought of spending my days treating patients with a view of the pitch where my work in cricket began seems meant to be.

“Thank you to all of our loyal clients who have followed us, supported us and encouraged our decision to stay where we are – and a massive thank you to the cricket club, who have been so encouraging and hospitable.

“We are delighted that we have been able to continue to help those most in need, which we would not have been able to do had we not adapted and relocated.”

Ryan Duckett, chief executive at the cricket club, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with The Sporting Joint and to have them on-site at the Incora County Ground on a permanent basis.

“Thankfully, we were able to step in at short-notice last year and the team were able to continue to provide care for their patients.

“We now look forward to developing what we hope will be a long and successful partnership.”
