The Derbados 2020 Cycling Challenge has been launched formally by Bondholders HUUB and Sky Recruitment Solutions.

Dean Jackson, Founder and Owner of triathlon kit specialists HUUB, and David Torrington, Managing Director of Sky Recruitment Solutions have once more laid down the gauntlet for others to join them for a weekend cycling challenge of 200km in Mallorca and Derbyshire on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th April.

They invited Professor Greg Whyte OBE, the performance expert who has supported celebrities in their Sport Relief challenges, alongside Henri Schoeman, Commonwealth Games triathlon champion and Olympic Bronze medallist, to formally launch the Derbados 2020 Cycling Challenge and share their tips for success.

Everyone taking part in Derbados 2020 will be asked to raise money for two Derby causes – Bondholder Derbyshire Institute of Sport (DIS), which supports athletes to become world-class, and Annabel’s Angels, which provides financial assistance to local people undergoing cancer treatment.

Dean Jackson of HUUB explained: “This is our Olympian challenge for 2020 and the perfect way to encourage people to get back into shape.

“This is about using sport to get fitter, raise money and spread the word of Derbados being the new cycling capital of the UK – if not the world!”

For those people unable to cycle in Spain, a Derby-based cycling sportive will be held on Friday 17th April at Carsington Water, sponsored by Bondholder Knights plc and Raleigh.

Led by fellow Bondholder Derbyshire Institute of Sport and the Annabel’s Angels, riders can cycle, either individually or as part of a four-strong team – covering the same distance as the Mallorca crew on a dedicated route at Carsington using road bikes, mountain bikes, e-bikes or static bikes with prizes awarded for special achievements.

David Torrington continued: “I hope that the Derby business community in particular will get right behind us to support two amazing Derby-based causes and have some fun in the sun at the same time.”

Chloe Maudsley, Managing Director at DIS, added: “We want to inspire people to be part of this year’s Olympic Games, cycling 200km in 2020 to raise £20,000 for two very important causes in Derbyshire. I really hope the community in Derbyshire get behind this and we are particularly keen that businesses take up the challenge, supporting their staff to become involved.“

Rachel Hayward, trustee of Annabel's Angels, said: “I knew I couldn't just organised the challenge with DIS alongside Huub and Sky Recruitment Solutions, I had to cycle too! This is very much a challenge for me, I am not a very sporty person, but alongside my friend Jemma who herself is a cancer survivor, we are going to smash that 200km and raise some much needed funds for 2 awesome causes. The support of the Derby and Derbyshire business community is very important to us, and I look forward to seeing lots of you sign up for Derbados 2020.”
