Bondholder Rigby and Co, in conjunction with GVA, has been instructed by the Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to put the former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary up for sale.

The site is currently being prepared for demolition and clearance, and is expected to be available for new development from September 2015.

It is expected to be highly attractive to the residential and commercial development markets; the site has Outline Planning Consent for commercial use, including food retail, combined with planning for approximately 400 residential units.

Managing Director of Bondholder company Rigby & Co, Russell Rigby said: “We are very confident that we can generate a level of interest in the site which will capitalise further on Derby’s ongoing £2Bn physical regeneration plan. Compendium Living’s adjoining Castleward Urban Village is selling and letting well which underpins our belief that we are timing the release of this site at absolutely the right time.”

The former Derbyshire Royal Infirmary site, which closed to the public in 2009, is approximately 18.4 acres, and is one of the biggest city centre development sites available in the Midlands.

The site is being sold through an informal tender process, with offers invited on or before Friday 7th November 2014.
