The Rt. Hon. Lord Deben (John Selwyn Gummer) – the Chair of the UK's Independent Committee on Climate Change – will be visiting Derby Cathedral on 5th November for a lively discussion on climate change prior to the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Paris.

Lord Deben has had a long career in politics including his posts as the Chairman of the Conservative Party (1983-85), Minister of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1989-93) and Secretary of State for the Environment (1993-97).

The Paris Summit has the main goal to reduce greenhouse gases to ensure the global temperature doesn't rise more than 2°C since pre-industrial levels.

The Summit will be the 21st annual Conference of the Parties to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 11th session since the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.

The event starts at 2:30pm on Thursday 5th November at Derby Cathedral. Refreshments and a bookstall will be available.
