DJH Tech Partners is urging company boards to treat cyber resilience as a core governance responsibility – on a par with financial and operational risk.

According to the firm, cyber security can no longer be left solely to IT teams – and is encouraging boards to ask “tough questions” about their cyber security now, rather than after an attack.

While critical national infrastructure such as telecoms is an obvious target, DJH claims the risk is far wider.

It says any organisation that holds valuable data, runs critical systems or sits in someone else’s supply chain carries a version of the same exposure.

Jon Woliter, managing director at DJH Tech Partners, said: “Cyber resilience is a governance issue, not just an IT one.

“Directors are accountable for it just as they are for financial and operational risk.

“The boards that cope best with an incident are the ones that have asked the tough questions and rehearsed their response beforehand.

“If you’re not sure you could answer them, it’s a good time to start the conversation.”

DJH has written an article exploring the threats and what company boards should do to prepare. To read it, click here.
