The winner of a beer naming competition held as part of the Marketing Derby Food and Drink Awards has been crowned.

Brian Blissett came up with the winning entry for the beer, which has been specially brewed to mark 18 years of the awards.

His submission – ‘The Wright Stuff’ – is a nod to Derby Museums’ ‘Year of Wright’ – and an exhibition currently taking place at Derby Museum & Art Gallery called Wright of Derby: From the Shadows.

Recently, Christopher Tebbs, inward investment executive at Marketing Derby and Food and Drink Awards lead, accompanied by marketing and communications manager and awards host Andrew Lowe, visited Brian at Middleton Care Home in Littleover, where he now lives, to present him with a celebratory bottle of Dancing Duck Brewery’s ‘Ay Up’ beer and a printed graphic of ‘The Wright Stuff’ pump clip.

Andrew said: “Brian told us how he used to drink at the Brunswick when it was first taken over by Trevor Harris.

“One beer in particular, which was later renamed ‘Business as Usual’, became his favourite.

“He was also a big advocate for Joseph Wright back in the 1980s and 1990s.

“So, he combined these two things to come up with ‘The Wright Stuff’.”

Christopher said: “It was a pleasure to meet Brian and find out the story behind his winning submission.

“With Derby this year celebrating all things Joseph Wright, it seemed very appropriate.

“We will all be raising a glass to Brian on the night of the awards.”

This year’s Marketing Derby Food and Drink Awards take place at Derby Market Hall on Monday 12 October.

The event will recognise the finest places to eat and drink in Derby – and the surrounding area.
