Derbion recently served up a smashing opportunity for youngsters when professional British tennis player Jay Clarke led free padel sessions.

Forming part of Derbion’s Get Active summer sessions, the workshops took place at the recently opened padel venue – Social Sports Society – and offered children the chance to try out a new sport without commitment or cost.

Joined by his sister and coach Yasmin Clarke, Jay shared expert advice and some of his top tips with the youngsters.

Born and raised in Pear Tree, Derby, Jay reached a career-high singles ranking of world no. 153 along with five Challenger and 12 Futures titles in the ATP Challenger Tour, while Yasmin has aced her career as a tennis coach, broadcaster and mentor.

The sessions took place during Derbion’s Get Active week, which also included mini ramp sessions at Flo Skatepark, football and cricket.

Beth McDonald, managing director at Derbion, said: “We’re the only shopping centre in the UK to offer padel courts and a skatepark together under one roof, and alongside Hollywood Bowl, Paradise Island Adventure Golf and Showcase Cinema de Lux we’re incredibly proud of our unique leisure mix that makes a wide range of activities accessible to all.”
