Firm lands top award for bomber tribute

Civil and structural engineering specialists BSP Consulting has been recognised for its part in creating a life-sized sculpture of a Lancaster Bomber honouring Second World War bomber crews.

The project recently won the Tourism & Leisure Project of The Year category at the Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2026.

The sculpture, called On Freedom’s Wings, is located at Norton Disney, close to the A46.

BSP Consulting structural engineers undertook the design work on the impressive monument, on behalf of the Bomber County Gateway Trust.

Carl Hilton, managing director at BSP, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled that On Freedom’s Wings was announced as a winner at the Greater Lincolnshire Construction and Property Awards 2026.

“We’ve been involved from the start and are incredibly proud to see it develop.

“It’s been an amazing scheme to work on, and we are pleased to now be providing transport planning and consultancy on the next phase, which includes creating the infrastructure for a dedicated car park and visitor centre to bring the experience to more people, with the potential to draw visitors from around the world.”
