The University of Derby and Embark Federation have joined forces to pioneer educational innovation across the region.

The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, launching a bold new strategic partnership aimed at transforming education and talent development across the region.

The three-year agreement outlines a shared vision to pioneer academic and professional collaborations that respond directly to local and national educational priorities.

A central focus of the partnership is the development of Embark Federation schools as centres of excellence for teacher training and professional development.

This will include deeper integration of Embark’s educational expertise into the university’s curriculum development and validation processes, as well as involving alumni to help inspire and guide the next generation of educators.

The collaboration also seeks to maximise the impact of the apprenticeship levy, enabling more school staff to access university-led degree apprenticeships tailored to their professional growth and regional skills needs.

One of the most ambitious aspects of the partnership is the proposed creation of a pioneering education ecosystem in Buxton and the High Peak.

This initiative aims to create a seamless educational journey from early years through to higher education, with specialised programmes designed by the university.

Professor Kathryn Mitchell CBE DL, vice-chancellor and chief executive of the University of Derby, said: “This partnership represents an exciting opportunity to transform the educational landscape in our region.

“By working closely with Embark Federation, we are building pathways that connect learners from early education through to higher education and employment.”

Matt Crawford, chief executive of Embark Federation, said: “We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with the University of Derby through this MoU.

“Together, we aim to create a truly collaborative education system that raises aspirations and delivers lasting change for children, families and communities across Derbyshire.”
