A community hub run by Safe and Sound is set to benefit from a grant from Derby City Council.

Through the use of Section 106 funding, the council is backing two community-led projects aimed at revitalising neighbourhood facilities.

Grants will be provided to Mickleover Community Pavilion Association and Safe and Sound, which supports vulnerable young people and families.

The charity will use its cash to improve the outdoor facilities at its Cotton Lane hub.

Formerly known as the Cotton Lane Community Centre, the revitalised Osmaston Community Hub, which was officially opened earlier this year, provides a safe and welcoming space for a range of activities, support services and community events, with a particular focus on providing outreach and preventative work to protect vulnerable young people.

Proposed improvements include upgrades to the BMX track in Osmaston Road/Cotton Lane, installation of a new multi-use games area and improved surface and drainage for all outdoor spaces.

Councillor Ndukwe Onuoha, the city council’s cabinet member for Streetpride, parks and leisure, said: “We’re proud to be working in partnership with these fantastic community groups.

“We’re not just funding projects we’re empowering local groups to lead and shape the spaces that matter most to them.”
