White Peak Distillery is today raising a glass with the launch of its first whisky.

From today, the Ambergate distillery will release its first batch of bottled single malt Wire Works Whisky for customers.

Customers will be visiting the distillery to collect pre-orders, with the first 100 treated to samples.

Initially, it is releasing around 5,000 bottles of the spirit, with more releases planned throughout the year.

According to the distillery, as well as ordering direct from the business, a number of bottles will also be available from selected retailers, with more details to follow.

In a statement on its website, the distillery said: “It’s an exciting moment for us as a team – finally seeing the whisky bottled, and ready for people to take home and enjoy.”

Located at the former Johnson & Nephew Wire Works, alongside the River Derwent, at Ambergate, White Peak Distillery was founded by Max and his wife Claire in 2016.

While it has been waiting for the whisky to age, the distillery has been producing its Shining Cliff Gin – named after the historical woodlands near the distillery.

Last year, the firm launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £500,000 to help it maximise its sales. The firm ended up raising in excess of £1 million.

Speaking in April last year, Max said: “We are so proud to have established the distillery as a recognised, innovative business within the Peak District, while winning awards for our spirits within the drinks industry.

“Our team is passionate about the business we’re building: our extraordinary location and its regeneration, the heritage within the local area we are building upon and the spirits we are creating as a taste of our homeland.”
