Volunteers needed for summer kids’ camps

Derby Kids’ Camp, which provides summer camping holidays to youngsters, is looking for volunteers so it can offer places to even more deserving children.

The charity, which this year is celebrating its 50th anniversary, is aiming to run two extra holidays at The Back Dane Trust alongside five weeks at its main campsite.

Partnerships with Embark Federation and Cosy Direct have supported these breaks in the past.

To run the holidays, the charity is looking for additional new volunteers to join the team.

The volunteers support children to take part in activities, make new friends and, above all, enjoy a week that they’ll remember for a lifetime.

The holidays include a range of activities – from crafts to campfires; snake-handling to swimming; magic shows, football, cycling and even water fights.

The holidays aim to build children’s confidence and independence.

Those who attend are aged from eight to 11 years old and are nominated by local primary schools.

Schools nominate the children who most need a break from day-to-day challenges, which regularly include financial difficulties, bereavement and difficulties with social interaction.

The charity is entirely volunteer-run and has provided holidays for an estimated 15,000 Derbyshire children over its 50 years.

Volunteering opportunities are available from 22 July to 26 August.
