Vaillant showcases UK readiness for mass heat pump deployment

Heating giant Vaillant has been showcasing the UK’s readiness for mass heat pump deployment to the Government’s Energy Minister.

As government and industry work together to accelerate the transition to low-carbon heating, the firm recently hosted Martin McCluskey, Minister for Energy Consumers, at its UK heat pump manufacturing facility in Belper.

Bringing together representatives from government, trade associations, installers, industry stakeholders and banking representatives, the visit and roundtable focused on the practical steps required to support large-scale heat pump adoption and deliver the ambitions of the Government’s Warm Homes Plan.

During the event, the Minister toured Vaillant’s heat pump manufacturing facility, seeing first-hand how UK manufacturing capacity, installer training and workforce development are already in place to support growing demand for heat pumps.

Henrik Hansen, managing director of Vaillant UK and Ireland, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Minister McCluskey and industry partners to our Belper facility and demonstrate the progress made to enable the transition to low carbon heating.

“The heat pump industry is no longer talking about future readiness, as the manufacturing capability, training infrastructure and growing installer workforce are already being developed today.

“Making policy a reality is now needed, alongside consumer support mechanisms and market certainty to enable deployment at scale.”

The visit highlighted the significant investment already made by industry to prepare for a mass-market rollout of low-carbon heating technologies.

The Minister also met with installers to discuss the customer journey, the role of trusted installer advice and the importance of developing the skills needed to meet future demand.

Following the tours, Vaillant, which also has a manufacturing facility in Derby, hosted a roundtable discussion with the Minister, trade bodies and sector representatives.

A key focus of the discussions was ensuring the conditions are in place to scale deployment successfully and consider possible challenges faced.

Topics included consumer access to finance, building confidence in low carbon heating, expanding the installer workforce and creating the certainty needed to encourage further investment across UK manufacturing and supply chains.

Mr McCluskey said: “Visiting Vaillant’s factory in Belper really brought home the company’s heritage and tradition after more than 150 years of manufacturing in the region.

“The roundtable was an excellent opportunity to hear first-hand from installers, finance institutions and consumer groups on how we can drive heat pump uptake and deliver our ambitious targets set out in the Warm Homes Plan.”

Mr Hansen added: “At Vaillant, we have invested significantly in UK heat pump manufacturing and training because we believe the industry must be ready ahead of demand.

“This visit provided an important opportunity to demonstrate that the foundations in place for at scale heat pump uptake are already established.

“This visit also provided an important opportunity to discuss how we can collectively accelerate adoption and ensure the Warm Homes Plan delivers for households, industry and the wider economy, while supporting the development of a skilled workforce.”
