Unsung heroes sought for King’s Honours recognition

An appeal has been made for ‘unsung heroes’ to be put forward for Royal recognition.

The Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Liz Fothergill CBE, is calling on the public to put forward individuals for the King’s Honours.

She would like to see more people from Derby and Derbyshire who make an important contribution to their community recognised.

This could be someone who devotes hours to a voluntary role, works tirelessly to safeguard the local environment, or helps youngsters into employment or apprenticeships.

Elizabeth said: “Although the national media often showcases ‘celebrities’ receiving national honours, the vast majority of recipients are individuals from every corner of the UK.

“Nominating someone for an honour is relatively easy. As well as completing a nomination form, applicants are expected to provide evidence of the impact of the individual’s activities together with letters of support from people who know them or have benefitted from their work.

“Of course, not every nomination is successful which is why you should do this in confidence and without telling the person you are nominating, but why not have a go.

“You also need to be patient. From a nomination being submitted to the Cabinet Office to the nominee being notified of the outcome often takes a year or so, but the wait can be worthwhile for the individuals involved and the local communities they serve.”

Nominations can be made anytime but 7 August is the deadline for the next round.
