Train operator East Midlands Railway is celebrating after being recognised as an ‘outstanding’ employer for the 10th consecutive year.

The firm, which is operated by Transport UK, has been recognised as a Top Employer in the UK for 2026 by the Top Employers Institute, marking a decade of consecutive certification.

The Top Employer Certification independently validates organisations that demonstrate excellence in their people practices and HR strategies.

EMR’s recognition reflects its continued focus on data-driven people strategies, strong employee engagement, and practices that support both business performance and workforce growth — all hallmarks of Transport UK’s wider leadership and cultural framework.

The certification programme assesses organisations through a rigorous HR Best Practices Survey, covering six key domains: People Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and Wellbeing.

Kate Holden, HR director at East Midlands Railway, said: “Being recognised as a Top Employer for the 10th consecutive year is an exceptional achievement and something we are immensely proud of.

“It reflects the dedication of our people and our long-term commitment to creating a workplace where colleagues feel valued, supported and empowered to succeed.

“This recognition reinforces our belief that investing in our people and developing strong, trusted leaders is fundamental to delivering a great railway for our customers and communities.”

The Top Employers Institute is the global authority in HR certification, benchmarking and advisory, operating in 131 countries and regions worldwide.

Adrian Seligman, chief executive of Top Employers Institute, said: “Achieving a Country Top Employer Certification for 2026 reflects East Midlands Railway’s dedication to building an outstanding workplace that enables sustained business performance.

“Their strong alignment between people strategy and organisational goals, combined with a commitment to continuous improvement, demonstrates the impact of their transformative practices.

“We are proud to recognise East Midlands Railway for their meaningful contribution to a better world of work in the UK.”
