Tighter regulation call for cosmetic procedures industry

Rothera Bray Solicitors is backing an urgent call for licensing in the aesthetics and non-surgical cosmetic procedures industry.
The need for regulation and a licensing framework to protect consumers once again came to the forefront following the tragic death of Alice Webb, the first UK woman to die in the UK following a ‘Brazilian butt lift’ procedure.
The UK’s aesthetics, non-surgical cosmetics and personal care industry is expanding rapidly.
However, this rapid growth has outpaced government regulation, leaving consumers vulnerable in an industry lacking robust legal safeguards.

In September 2023, the Sunak government launched a consultation on introducing a licensing regime for the sector.
But following the General Election, the Labour government is yet to act on the resulting proposals.
Jo Soar, licensing specialist at Rothera Bray Solicitors, said: “Without proper regulation, unqualified practitioners continue to put lives a risk.
“We urgently need a licensing regime to ensure safety, accountability and high standards in the industry. We call upon the Government to act now.”
