In the latest edition of Marketing Derby’s Innovate Magazine we visit heating giant Vaillant’s new £40 million production plant in Derby.

Here we meet Henrik Hansen, managing director of the group’s UK and Ireland operations, who explains why the Derby site is at the centre of future household decarbonisation efforts.

The facility at Indurent Park Derby makes energy-efficient hot water cylinders for heat pump systems to replace outdated and less efficient technology.

Henrik told Innovate: “This investment in a purpose-built cylinder plant marks an exciting move for Vaillant as we continue to lead the transition to decarbonised homes.

“The move to heat pumps in the UK requires commitment from manufacturers to invest in the UK infrastructure, build consumer confidence in the technology and generate additional jobs in the sector.

“By investing in the production of advanced, energy-efficient hot water cylinders, we’re providing the UK market with a full heat pump system solution to support the overall development of the UK supply chain, ensuring products are designed and manufactured to meet the needs of the country’s  housing stock.”

These are, exciting times for Vaillant, which has celebrated its new venture by signing a deal, which has seen Derby’s recently opened concert arena renamed Vaillant Live.

It is a major statement of support for an area with which the business has enjoyed a 90-year association and where Henrik is delighted Vaillant has been able to make further investment.

He told Innovate: “With a heritage in Derbyshire which dates back to 1934, we are proud to be part of a region which has a wealth of manufacturing innovation and expertise across a wide range of industries.

According to Henrik, the opening of the new Derby manufacturing site is a long-term investment.

He told Innovate: “This commitment to developing and manufacturing high recovery hot water cylinders for UK homes, sees Vaillant playing a leading role in the transition to a low carbon future.

“We’ve done it because we believe in the market longer term. We see the development in heat pumps and, as a leader in boilers, we see the opportunity to also be a leader in heat pumps.”
