Students at Derby College have been given an insight into career opportunities in the rail industry at a special event.

A wide range of rail employers showcased the job opportunities available at the Insight into Rail Day, which was organised by the college for students on a range of study programmes.

Held at the college’s Roundhouse, on Pride Park, among the companies in attendance was East Midlands Railway, which promoted fleet and train driver apprenticeship positions available.

Emily Bramble is chair of the Rail Industry Skills Board, in her capacity as verification and validation management lead engineer at Alstom.

She said: “This was a very successful event to showcase the vast opportunities in the rail industry, which go far beyond just engineering.

“In the changing workplace, we as employers want people with communication and digital skills who are able to operate efficiently and effectively both in person and on virtual meetings and presentations.

“We also want individuals who are responsible, critical thinkers and problem solvers.”
