Serviced apartments business The Stay Company is celebrating its sixth anniversary by revealing plans for more growth.

Since its was founded, the firm, which has its headquarters in Friar Gate, has welcomed tourists and business travellers from across the UK, Europe and beyond.

Now Dan Wilkinson, director at The Stay Company, is in talks to add more sites to its Derby and Nottingham portfolio of 100 apartments.

He said: “I still remember the nerves in my stomach when we opened The Stay Company’s reservation diary six years ago.

“I think I paced the office floor for three whole weeks waiting for the first person to book one of our serviced apartments.

“Believe me, those early days felt like a lifetime because we literally had no idea how well The Stay Company was going to be received here in Derby.

“Then a lawyer, who needed to stay in Derby while he was working at Rolls-Royce, made a booking and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Before setting up The Stay Company, Dan trained as a mortgage broker and developed an expert understanding of the property market during his years as an estate agent.

He said: “Launching the serviced apartments in Derby was fantastic but we soon moved into Nottingham, and this followed a natural progression of expansion from our core area of operation.

“What we do best – and we’re still doing it now – is search out the very best sites and properties to house our one, two and three-bedroom apartments.”

The Stay Company has marked its anniversary with the news that one of its key clients – Derbyshire County Cricket Club – has extended its partnership with the business.

Dan said: “We’ve come a long way in a very short time, but I never take our success for granted and as a team we work hard to ensure that we always provide guests with a home away from home.

“I am proud of everything we have achieved in our first six years. What we’ve learned since 2017, is that the demand for premium, extended stay accommodation in and around the East Midlands is huge.

“While we have our HQ in Derby, we are always actively looking to add more sites to our Derby and Nottingham portfolio.

“It is exciting to grow our quality brand and give other cities a taste of what The Stay Company is all about.”
