Schools appeal for new community members

Derby Diocesan Academy Trust is looking for new members to join Local Trust Committees at several of its schools across the city and county.

Previously known as school governing bodies, the committees work alongside headteachers and school leaders to help monitor educational standards and pupil progress.

They ensure safeguarding and pupil wellbeing remain a priority and provide oversight of provision for children with special educational needs and disabilities and those who may face barriers to learning.

And they also help schools build strong relationships with parents, carers and their wider communities.

There are various vacancies at schools in Derby including five positions at St Chad’s CofE VC Nursery and Infant School, in Normanton.

Sarah Clark, chief executive of Derby Diocesan Academy Trust, said: “Our schools are an important part of the communities they serve, and we want local people to have a meaningful voice in their future.

“You absolutely don’t have to be a teacher or an education expert to become a Local Trust Committee member.

“People bring valuable skills from all sorts of backgrounds and professions, but just as importantly they bring their knowledge of and commitment to their local community.”
