Lonsdale Swimming Pool has announced the next phase of a comprehensive programme to improve its facilities.

Next month, work will begin on the second phase of its refurbishment project, which will focus on upgrades to the roof cladding.

The work aims to enhance energy efficiency, helping to manage rising energy costs and support a more sustainable facility.

As a result, Lonsdale Swimming Pool will temporarily close from 4 August to 2 September to allow the work to take place.

In statement, Lonsdale Swimming & Sports Trust, which operates the pool, said: “We have chosen this time to begin the project to coincide with our regular two-week annual maintenance shutdown and the school holidays, ensuring minimal disruption to our swimmers.”

The trust also manages Gayton Pool (on behalf of Derby City Council – and during the closure, additional swimming sessions will take place there.

Looking ahead, the third phase of the refurbishment programme, which is subject to planning permission, will include enhancements to exterior doors, windows and cladding on the outside of the building.

The trust said: “We appreciate the ongoing support of our swimming community and look forward to welcoming you to Gayton Pool in August.

“We will, of course, continue to keep you updated every step of the way.

“Thank you again for your patience and support.”
