New name announced for historic Derby leisure club

Rolls-Royce Leisure – regarded as one of Derby’s oldest and most popular leisure clubs – has announces it has changed its name to Derby Leisure and Events Venue to better reflect the services and facilities it offers.

For almost 100 years, Rolls-Royce Leisure, in Moor Lane, has provided a range of social, leisure and sporting facilities to Rolls-Royce employees and the wider Derby community.

During that time, the business, which occupies a 30-acre site, has had a number of names, including Rolls-Royce Leisure and Rolls-Royce Welfare.

Historically, as the leisure complex is based on land owned by Rolls-Royce, many of its customers have been Rolls-Royce employees.

But it has always been a separate business to Rolls-Royce – and its services and facilities have always been open to the whole community.

The enforced closure of the complex due to the pandemic provided the management team with the opportunity to review the operation, resulting in the decision to carry out a complete rebrand.

It is felt that the new Derby Leisure and Events Venue brand will enable the business to better promote its facilities to the wider Derby community.

The complex offers a combination of social, sporting and hospitality facilities.

Speaking about the decision to rebrand to Derby Leisure and Events Venue, general manager Colin Bancroft said: “We’ve been working alongside Rolls-Royce Plc for almost 100 years but when the pandemic hit, it prompted us to re-evaluate our current offering and determine how we can reach a wider community outside the Rolls-Royce brand.

“Our new name, Derby Leisure and Events Venue, better reflects our role as a provider of social, sports and leisure facilities to the whole community.

“Nothing else has changed and membership to our fitness centre remains unaffected.

“We will continue to operate with the same values that have been in place for nearly a century.

“Now we are hopefully seeing the end of all Covid restrictions, we are looking to reintroduce all our normal services, with some exciting new developments planned for later this year.

“I’d like to thank all our customers and members for their continued support over the years and look forward to welcoming them to Derby Leisure and Events Venue.”
