Library manager helps college write new chapter
A Derby College Group library manager has been recognised for her research into student wellbeing.
Rachel Huskisson, who leads the college’s library services, recently completed a master’s degree with distinction while working full-time.
She has been recognised with an academic prize from the School of Information, Journalism and Communication at the University of Sheffield for her research into student wellbeing.

Her award-winning dissertation explored the role of further education libraries in supporting student wellbeing, research that is now informing the college’s library strategy.
Rachel said: “My research reinforced how vital libraries are as safe, inclusive spaces.
“It’s helped me shape a service that places students at the centre of everything we do, removes barriers to access, and supports wellbeing alongside learning.”
Rachel’s line manager, Melanie Lanser, said: “Rachel has taken the Library for Learning Services to the next level and firmly placed libraries at the heart of the student experience.
“Achieving a master’s with distinction, and winning a prize, is well-deserved recognition of her leadership, dedication and the positive difference she makes for our students and staff.”
