Law firm Nelsons has been reflecting on its best ever year in which its turnover hit a record £20 million.

The firm, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary, said ambitious plans to “recapture the spirit we were founded on while rejuvenating our culture” had resulted in the stellar performance in 2022.

Nelsons said a culmination of a strategy introduced by chief executive Stewart Vandermark in 2018, following his appointment in 2017, had seen its offices in Derby, Leicester, and Nottingham grow in expertise and offering, while also exceeding turnover targets.

Over the past 12 months, the business has made 16 promotions and been recognised through accreditations and accolades, most recently making its debut ranking in The Times’ top 250 law firms for its personal injury and clinical negligence expertise, as well as maintaining multiple Tier One rankings in The Legal 500.

Mr Vandermark said: “I’m proud to see the ambitions put in place for Nelsons four years ago have been realised, resulting in an incredible year for the firm.

“In the past four years, we’ve made significant investments in all three of our offices and have rebranded the firm, redefining its culture and setting out a clear vision.

“This created a real buzz in the workplace, helping us to drive performance and reach our targets.

“When we launched our vision of what we wanted to achieve, we committed ourselves to a stretching headline target of hitting £20 million.

“Surpassing that has been a collective effort and we certainly couldn’t have seen such success without our hardworking teams across our offices, where everyone has embraced the vision we set out.

“Big changes can be daunting, but it is also a great way to release new energy and it really feels as though Nelsons has had a resurgence, while still retaining its core sense of purpose.

“Having achieved the target of £20 million, we now move onto the exciting task of finalising our vision for the next three years while celebrating the firm’s 40th anniversary this year.

“We know there are some uncertain times ahead but having recaptured the spirit that the firm was founded on, we’ll continue to drive growth through our culture and commitment to clients, looking for new opportunities as we set our sights on even greater goals for the future.”
