Local children have raised more than £17,000 for Treetops Hospice from a festive fundraiser.

Over 3,500 children from primary schools and community groups across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire helped raise the cash for the end-of-life hospice after taking part in its annual Reindeer Dash over winter.

For the festive fundraiser, they donned reindeer antlers and completed obstacle courses, played a reindeer football match, danced at discos, or simply dressed up for the day.

Amy Sykes, community engagement officer at Treetops, said: “We’re so thrilled to announce the final total raised in the Reindeer Dash and we want to thank everyone who’s been involved.

“It was wonderful to see the children with their reindeer antlers, having fun while raising money for a great cause.

“The proceeds raised helps the hospice to provide bereavement support for children and young people.

“The amount raised will help fund over 500 counselling sessions, which will really help children struggling after the death of a loved one.”
