Hundreds sign up to digital ticketing trial

East Midlands Railway has said hundreds of people have signed up to a new pay-as-you-go digital ticketing trial.
Within the first 10 days, over 200 people signed up to the trial, which will run between Leicester, Derby and Nottingham

Using GPS-based technology, the system tracks journeys via mobile and automatically charges the best-value fare.
Launching in September, the trial will offer up to 1,000 local customers the chance to experience this simpler, smarter way to travel.
Backed by Department for Transport funding, the initiative is part of a national effort to modernise rail travel and make train journeys easier and more intuitive.
Jenna Cowie, interim commercial director at East Midlands Railway, said: “It is great that we have had such a positive reaction to this trial.
“It is all about making train travel easier, faster and more intuitive. No more fare confusion – just check in and out with your phone and know you’ll automatically pay the best-value fare for your journey.”
