Halls regeneration moves up a gear

Main construction work on a multi-million-pound project to transform Glossop’s heritage halls has started.

The work at Glossop Halls is part of a £7 million regeneration project to bring the Town Hall, Market Hall and Municipal Buildings up to modern standards.

The scheme is being funded by High Peak Borough Council – and includes a £2 million grant contribution from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership via its Getting Building Fund.

Once complete, it will create jobs and new spaces for community use, entrepreneurs and micro-businesses, alongside the introduction of energy saving technologies and fibre broadband.

Councillor Anthony Mckeown, leader of the borough council, said: “This month will see the start of the final construction works to bring about the once-in-a-generation project to modernise our historic halls and re-open them to the public.

“This multi-million-pound transformation project will put these much loved and locally important buildings at the heart of a rejuvenated town centre and secure them for generations to come.”
