Green crusade marks major milestone
Down to Earth has hit a major milestone in its mission to make Derby the UK’s greenest city.
The organisation, which is spearheading nature-based regeneration in Derby city centre, has said that over the past year it has created 28 new public green spaces across the city.

Together, these spaces, which range from pocket parks to planted areas, equate to 7,727 sq metres – the equivalent of an entire football pitch.
They are estimated to sequester 1.14 tonnes of carbon every year, marking a landmark achievement in Down to Earth’s ongoing efforts to bring more nature into the city.
These efforts include a pipeline to deliver 60 green spaces by 2027.
Jamie Quince-Starkey, founder and chief executive of Down to Earth, said: “This is something we’re incredibly proud of.
“It proves that all green spaces are valuable, regardless of size.
“Each small space adds up to create a big impact – and together, we’re genuinely changing the face of Derby.”
