Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity has welcomed grant funding which has enabled a new piece of art to be installed at Burton’s Queen’s Hospital.

The cash from life sciences company Sciensus has contributed to the cost of the new installation by renowned willow artist Emma Parkins, which features five majestic white willow swans captured in a moment of movement and light.

The installation is designed to provide a warm and uplifting welcome to patients, staff and visitors.

The idea for the swans came directly from NHS staff, who were invited to choose which animal they would most like to see represented in the space.

Jill Matthews, chief officer at Derby and Burton Hospitals Charity, said: “We’re incredibly thankful to Sciensus for their generous support.

“This beautiful artwork will provide a moment of calm and reflection for everyone who enters the hospital.

“Swans hold a deep connection with Burton, from the iconic swan sculpture at Stapenhill Gardens to the real birds that grace the River Trent.

“This installation continues that legacy in a setting where it can offer comfort and inspiration.”
