Expert helps highlight social media dangers

One of the founders of Status Social has taken part in a high-level panel discussion on the impact smartphone and social media use can have on the mental health and wellbeing of young people.
Last week, social media and digital wellbeing expert Mark Saxby joined a high-profile panel at the House of Commons, which came together to address one of the most pressing concerns facing young people today: the impact of smartphone and social media use on their mental health and wellbeing.

Mark, who is founder of the national Positive Social charity, took part in the panel discussion following the Parliamentary screening of the short film Another Way – a powerful and artistic portrayal of smartphone overuse among teenagers – starring Peter Andre.
Mark has extensive experience of working with schoolchildren and parents to help young people build healthier, more mindful relationships with social media.
He said: “I was honoured to be part of this important discussion at the heart of our democracy.
“This isn’t about banning phones entirely — it’s about recognising when and how they begin to harm young people’s focus, mental health, and sense of identity.
“Another Way beautifully captures the tension many teenagers face, and I hope it sparks the urgent conversations we need across education and government.”
