Derby Brewing has announced plans to open its seventh pub.

Hot on the heels of the opening of its sixth location, premium sports bar The Clubhouse, in Friar Gate, Derby, the firm has revealed it will open its next location in Matlock.

Called the The Pointing Dogs, the new pub will be located in the former Herd Steakhouse, in Dale Road, which was formerly a branch of NatWest.

Founded in 2004 by Trevor Harris, Derby Brewing produces a wide range of ales and craft beers, many of which have regional and national awards to their name.

The company also operates its own sites. As well as The Clubhouse, it owns the Derby Brewing Tap House and The Greyhound, both in Derby city centre.
It also operates The Hole in the Wall, in Mickleover.

Further afield, it runs The Middle Bell, in Barton under Needwood and The Pig, at Lichfield.

Derby Brewing said that The Pointing Dogs will be a contemporary and premium pub offer, which will serve craft beers, premium ales, artisan spirits, cocktails, world wines and ciders. And it will serve contemporary pub food.

It will be split across three levels, including a main bar, mezzanine, restaurant with riverside views and a cellar bar.

Work to create The Pointing Dogs is due to start imminently and is planned to be completed in time for an August opening.

Paul Harris, managing director of Derby Brewing, said: “Matlock has been a target location for us for some time and we are delighted to have secured such a fantastic venue.

“We can’t wait to bring our modern Derby Brewing offer to Matlock, combining an unrivalled drinks range with excellent food. We hope everyone will agree it will be a great addition to the town.”
