Conflict resolution charity Derby Community Mediation Services has officially launched in the city centre.

The charity was established in response to the growing need for accessible, early intervention support to help people resolve conflict before it escalates.

It recognises that many individuals, families, neighbours and community groups face disputes that can have a significant impact on wellbeing and relationships but lack affordable, impartial support.

Derby Community Mediation Services was set up to provide independent, confidential and impartial mediation and conflict resolution services that promote constructive dialogue, strengthen communities and help people find lasting solutions to their disagreements.

Its clients include individuals, families, neighbours, community groups, charities, housing associations, local organisations and small businesses across Derbyshire.

Its co-founder and chair is Nermina Webster, a trained solicitor with 18 years’ post-qualification experience, specialising in governance, leadership and dispute resolution.

She holds the position alongside managing a successful limited company, bringing experience in business management and financial oversight.

She said: “We support anyone experiencing conflict who would benefit from independent, impartial assistance to resolve disputes constructively and improve communication.

“We also work with referral partners and community organisations seeking early intervention solutions to prevent conflicts from escalating.

“Our aim is to help people resolve conflict safely, constructively, and at an early stage, reducing the emotional, social, and financial impact of disputes.

“Through mediation and conflict resolution services, we seek to improve communication, rebuild relationships where possible, strengthen communities, and empower individuals to find lasting solutions to their disagreements.

“By promoting understanding and cooperation, we aim to create more connected, resilient, and harmonious communities across Derbyshire.”

The charity has recently become a Marketing Derby Bondholder.

Explaining the reasons why, Nermina said: “We joined Marketing Derby to become part of a strong network of organisations committed to supporting and strengthening Derby and the wider region.

“As a community-focused charity, we want to build relationships with local businesses, public sector partners, and voluntary organisations, raising awareness of the benefits of mediation and early conflict resolution.

“Through membership, we hope to increase collaboration opportunities, develop referral partnerships, share best practice, and contribute to creating stronger, more connected communities across Derbyshire.”
