A resident artist from Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity has been sharing her expertise at one of the world’s leading healthcare wellbeing conferences.

E J Lance (Emma Bailey), a member of the charity’s Air Arts team, recently delivered a practical workshop at the International Conference on Physician Health in London.

The workshop demonstrated how creative practice can support clinicians to look more closely, think more critically and develop greater confidence in describing what they see.

According to the charity, Emma’s invitation reflects the growing recognition of the role the arts can play in healthcare education and staff wellbeing.

She said: “I was delighted to have been invited to represent Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity and the work we do through the Air Arts team at such a prestigious conference.

“The projects we deliver with clinical teams across Derbyshire and Staffordshire are designed not only to enhance professional practice, but also to support wellbeing.

“Through the workshop, I demonstrated how creative approaches can improve observation, encourage reflection and ultimately benefit both healthcare professionals and the patients they care for.

“It was particularly exciting to be able to share work that has contributed to published research and to showcase the valuable role artists can play within healthcare settings.”
