Bus operator puts cancer support charity in the driving seat

Bus operator trentbarton has announced it has chosen to back a cancer support charity over the next two years.

The firm’s drivers and staff have selected Macmillan Cancer Support as the beneficiary of its fundraising activities.

Macmillan was chosen for its vital work with people diagnosed with cancer, coming top in a staff vote from a choice of charities nominated by the team and by trentbarton customers.

Scarlet​​​​ McCourt, marketing and communications manager at trentbarton, said: “Everyone knows how challenging a cancer diagnosis can be, whether for themselves or for a loved one.

“Knowing that Macmillan Cancer Support is there to help and guide is a tremendous comfort.

“Our teams and their charity champions will be working hard to generate as much money as possible, and we know our customers will be keen to support our fundraising.”

Trentbarton charity champions Michelle Bower and Andy Davenport-Young recently welcomed Olly Larkin, relationship fundraising manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, to a depot to mark the start of the partnership.

Olly said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be chosen as trentbarton’s charity partner for the next two years.

“Together we can make a meaningful difference, ensuring every person with cancer gets the support they need, whoever and wherever they are.

“We’re incredibly grateful for trentbarton’s support and are excited to see what we can achieve together through fundraising and awareness raising, as well as colleague and passenger engagement over the course of the partnership.”

Money will be raised for the charity through staff events, sponsored challenges and trentbarton’s Namesake programme where people can donate to have a bus named after a loved one.

Trentbarton recently presented £12,000 to its previous charity of the year, Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance (LNAA) after fundraising for the past two years.
